Producer Information
Château Grand Mayne is a Grand Cru Classé wine estate located in the center of the Saint-Émilion region in Bordeaux. The grand vin of the same name is based on Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Today, the vineyard covers 17 hectares (43 acres) of a 21-hectare (52-acre) estate. A section of the vineyard borders Château Beau-Séjour Bécot. 78 percent of plantings are Merlot, 19 percent to Cabernet Franc, with 3 percent Cabernet Sauvignon. The amount of Cabernet Franc has increased in recent years; the estate is aiming for a figure of around 35 percent. The vines are planted on slopes that face south and west, on clay and limestone soils. Harvest is carried out by hand and the grapes from each plot are vinified separately in stainless steel tanks and wooden vats. The grand vin is then aged in French oak barrels for approximately 18 months before bottling, with 70 to 80 percent new wood. Château Grand Mayne makes approximately 6,000 cases of its Saint-Émilion Grand Cru classé wine per year. The second wine is Filia de Grand Mayne, previously known as Les Plantes du Mayne.
