      Producer Information

Cockburn's Port is a historic Port house, that has production dating back to 1815. Scotsman Robert Cockburn established the house on his return to Portugal after previously fighting in the Napoleonic Wars under Wellington. The company became a major Port brand throughout the 19th and 20th Centuries. The company's base is the Quinta dos Canais in the Upper Douro, which has 97 hectares (240 acres) of vineyards on rocky schist soils. The quinta takes its name from the system of stone channels built in the 19th Century which are used as a water source to irrigate the vines. First released in 1969 and sourced from vineyards in the Upper Douro, the Special Reserve is matured in oak casks for five years prior to bottling.  All other styles of port are produced, from Ruby through to Vintage, including Tawnies and White Port. The modern offering from Cockburn is the Portonic, a blend of white port and tonic water availible on the market in a ready-to-drink can. In 1962 the Cockburn family sold the business and today, it is owned by Symington Family Estates, which also own a number of other key Port houses.
