Producer Information
Altamura Vineyards and Winery is a small wine producer of Napa Valley, California. It is known for its wines made from Cabernet Sauvignon as well as its wines made from regionally atypical Italian red grape varieties, specifically Sangiovese. The Altamura Cabernet Sauvignon is the flagship of the wine portfolio, released as both a current vintage and as a library collection. Upon arrival in the winery, portion of the hand-picked grapes are kept in contact with the fermenting wine allow for tannins to integrate. Following fermentation, it is barrel-aged in French oak of up to 34 months prior to bottling. Other notable wines in the collection include two produced from the Italian grape varieties of Nebbiolo and Negroamaro. The rarest wine from Altamura portfolio is the Sauvignon Blanc, sourced from a mere four acres of vines on the estate property. Wooden Valley is a small sub-region of Napa Valley formed by volcanic activity, but it is not a formally recognized viticultural area. The valley is cooled by breezes and regular afternoon fogs, giving it a longer growing season than the Napa average. Wooden Valley has several vineyards but is not known for its viticulture, and Altamura remains one of few wineries.
