      Producer Information

Jean-Luc Colombo is a leading producer and negociant in the Rhône Valley, and is particularly associated with the Cornas appellation. For several decades he has acted as consultant to many top domaines in the Rhône, Provence and Bordeaux regions, and is also founder of the Centre Oenologique des Côtes du Rhône. Colombo's career began with the purchase of a small plot of old vines on a granite hillside overlooking Cornas village itself. His first vintage of Cornas Les Ruchets in 1987 established his reputation. It remains his flagship wine, although it has since been joined by a further three Cornas cuvées: Les Terres Brûlées; La Louvée; and Vallon de l’Aigle. Colombo also makes a raft of regional wines through holdings and his negociant range from all northern Rhône titles and numerous other, more southerly, appellations. These include: Le Rouet Hermitage; La Divine, a Côte Rôtie; Les Bartavelles (red) and Les Bartavelles Interdites (white) from Châteauneuf-du-Pape; and a Condrieu (L'Amour de Dieu). Other appellations featured include Côtes du Rhône, Cairanne, Vinsobres and IGP Méditerranée wines as well as wines from Provence and the Languedoc. Initially Colombo was viewed as an arch modernizer but, while he remains outspoken and sometimes controversial, aspects of his approach, including organics are more widely accepted today.
