Producer Information
Château Rocheyron is a well-regarded wine estate based in the Saint-Emilion commune of Saint-Christophe-des-Bardes, just east of Saint-Emilion town. The estate produces two wines from a Merlot-Cabernet Franc blend. Since 2010, the estate has been jointly owned by Pingus winemaker Peter Sisseck and luxury goods moghul Silvio Denz. The Rocheyron vineyards span some eight hectares (20 acres) and are primarily planted to Merlot (70 percent). The remaining 30 percent is Cabernet Franc. These proportions are generally reflected in the final wines although variations in growing season (and their impact on the two cultivars) mean proportions will fluctuate between vintages. The vineyards and wines are organically certified by Biodyvin. Since 2014, the estate has also been run on biodynamic principles, although neither the vineyard nor the wines are biodynamically certified. As well as the eponymous Château Rocheyron "grand vin", a second wine – La Fleur de Rocheyron – is also produced at the estate. Wines for the grand vin spend 14-18 months in French oak barriques following fermentation in temperature-controlled concrete vats. The property was acquired by Denz (whose Vignobles Sivio Denz portfolio includes the likes of Château Lafaurie-Peyraguey in Sauternes and Saint-Emilion Grand Cru Classé estate Château Faugères) and Sisseck in 2010.
