      Producer Information

Château Gracia (often known simply as "Gracia") is a small wine estate and holding – it was one of the first so-called "garagiste" wineries – in the Saint-Emilion region of northeast Bordeaux. The Gracia vineyard covers just over two hectares (around five acres) in Saint-Emilion and the wines are made in a small winery – effectively a garage (whence the term "garagiste" for small winemakers with no true winery or estate in a region dotted with, often grand, châteaux) – in an alleyway in Saint-Emilion town. The vineyard planting is very much in keeping with regional proportions, with around 80 percent Merlot and almost all of the remainder planted to Cabernet Franc. A small portion is planted with Cabernet Sauvignon. The wines are grown and made by in-demand local stonemason Michel Gracia (whose client list includes Pétrus and Cheval Blanc). Gracia oversees viticulture and winemaking for his eponymous label. Yields are low and production is small (around 300 cases annually). The wines are fermented in stainless steel tanks and oak vats and aged in 100-percent new French oak barriques. Not a second wine in the strict sense of the term, Gracia also produces the Les Angelots de Gracia label.
