2012 | Chateau Berliquet | Saint-Emilion Grand Cru

2012 | Chateau Berliquet | Saint-Emilion Grand Cru

Red Wine: 2012 | Chateau Berliquet | Saint-Emilion Grand Cru

The 2012 Berliquet is quite attractive. Succulent dark cherries, menthol, licorice and new leather are all pushed forward. The 2012 is open-knit and generous, with good up-front appeal, and enough underlying structure to drink well for at least a decade, perhaps longer. Beams of supporting tannin shape the expressive finish.

      Producer Information

Château Berliquet is a Grand Cru Classé producer in the Saint-Émilion region of Bordeaux. Founded in 1768, it is one of the oldest estates in the region. It was also one of the first estates in Bordeaux to sell wine under its own name and not just as generic Saint-Émilion. The estate’s 7.5 hectares (18.5 acres) are mostly planted to Merlot with approximately 70 percent. The remaing in planted to Cabernet Franc. The first two grape varieties are sited on the western hillside which gently slopes towards the Dordogne. The effect of the natural limestone here is evident in the racy character of the wines. The Premier Grand Cru Classé vineyard of Château Canon and the distinct parcel used for (its second wine) Croix Canon both border Château Berliquet. They now share the same owner, Maison Chanel of fashion fame. The group purchased Berliquet in 2017.
