Reviews:
- Wine Advocate: The 2014 Chapelle d'Ausone came across quite plush when I tasted it from barrel. Now in bottle it has certainly attained a more classic style without compromising the satisfying delineation and focus. There is plenty of fresh red cherry, crushed strawberry and loganberry fruit to savor, an undercurrent and limestone that percolates through. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, very refined and focused with superb tension and nuance. This just glides across the mouth, not a million miles away from the 2014 La Clotte in style, blessed with a very persistent finish.
Producer Information
The estate took the name of a famous Latin poet of the 4th century AD, Ausone, who is said to have owned a house on the very spot where the castle stands today. It is undoubtedly an old vineyard but it took a long time to come out of anonymity. From the end of the 18th century, its history becomes clearer: it is successively the property of the Cantenat then of the Lafargue and still currently belongs to the descendants of these families. In the middle of the 19th century, informal classifications show it among the very best wines of Saint-Emilion. However, it was not until the 1970s and the arrival of Pascal Delbeck as manager to see Ausone appear among the greatest wines of Bordeaux. The current owner, Mr. Vauthier, has taken this wine even further.
