Producer Information
Cuvaison Winery is a Napa Valley estate based in the southernmost subregion, Carneros. The primary varieties cultivated here are Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, with additional grape varieties such as Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah and Merlot grown at the winery's Brandlin estate in Mount Veeder. The estate came into the hands of the current owners, the Schmidheiny family from Switzerland, in 1979. They invested heavily in the renewal of the estate and its vineyards, replanting key grape varieties in distinct blocks so as to enable a block-by-block farming approach where each block could be vinified separately. This period of investment continued with the purchase of the Brandlin estate in 1998, followed by the construction of a new winery in Carneros in 2004. The Schmidheiny family's dedication to block-by-block farming methods is reflected in its single-block series of wines from the Carneros estate. These include wines like the Mariafeld and Spire Pinot Noirs, Kite Tail Chardonnay and Diablo Syrah. Other ranges within the wine portfolio include the Legacy, named after members of teh Schmidheiny family to honor the history and heritage.
