      Producer Information

Chanin Wines is a cool-climate producer based in Santa Barbara County, California. It was established in 2007 by eponymous founding winemaker Gavin Chanin with a focus on Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Chanin Wines source their grapes from three different vineyards in Sta. Rita Hills, Santa Barbara County and the Santa Maria Valley, all of which are farmed organically or sustainably. Here a diverse range of marine based soils and a cool-maritime climate creates ideal conditions for viticulture. Pinot Noir and Chardonnay were chosen by Chanin for their ability to reflect subtle differences in the geography, geology and climate. Each wine is produced from grapes grown at one vineyard with no blending pre or post-fermentation to magnify the varietal expression from each plot. In the winery, Chardonnay is pressed and directly put into French oak barrels of which where it remains on lees for up to 16 months. Immediately after picking, Pinot Noir is cold soaked for multiple days prior to fermentation of which is then finished in French oak barrels. It is bottled unrefined and unfiltered. All wines from Chanin are produced in a lower-alcohol, balanced style to maximize the expression of terroir.
