      Producer Information

Domaine Blain-Gagnard is a Burgundian wine producer based in the village of Chassagne-Montrachet. The domaine focuses predominantly on white wines made from Chardonnay, producing three grand crus and eight premier crus largely from Chassagne-Montrachet, as well as Volnay. Domaine Blain-Gagnard was founded by Jean-Marc Blain and Claudine Gagnard in the 1980s. Today the domaine cultivates 8 hectares (20 acres) of vineyards planted with a mixture of old and young vines in order to achieve increased complexity in the finished wines. The Chardonnay grapes for the Bâtard-Montrachet grand cru are sourced from three different parcels planted between 1939 and 1986. In addition to its small vineyard holding in Bâtard-Montrachet, Domaine Blain-Gagnard owns plots in Criots-Bâtard-Montrachet and Le Montrachet from which it makes a total of three grand cru white wines. These wines are fermented in 30 percent new oak casks (with regular bâtonnage) prior to fining and filtering before bottling. The domaine's premier cru vineyard holdings are planted to both Chardonnay and Pinot Noir and are located in La Boudriotte, Les Caillerets, Clos Saint-Jean, Morgeot, Les Champans and Les Pitures. The portfolio is completed by the addition of four village-level wines, two of which from Chassagne-Montrachet and the remainder from Pommard and Puligny-Montrachet, as well as a single Bourgogne Passe-tout-grains wine.
