Producer Information
Castello di Querceto is a Tuscan estate near Greve on the northeastern side of the Chianti Classico region. It is best known for its classically styled reds from the Chianti Classico DOCG but also produces a wider range of wines, mostly featuring Sangiovese (occasionally alongside Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon). The estate's history of wine production dates to the early 1900s, but its physical history goes back much further. The current buildings were built in the 16th Century and it is named after the oak forests that surround it. The estate extends over 190 hectares (468 acres) of which 60 hectares (150 acres) are planted to grapes. Most of the vineyards were planted between 1975 and 1985. There are 22 different plots, individually chosen for their microclimate and soil characteristics. The harvests are manual and yields are kept low through rigorous pruning and green harvests when required.
