      Producer Information

Chateau Souverain is a wine producer based in California's Alexander Valley AVA (American Viticultural Area). The estate specializes in single-variety wines sourced largely from Sonoma County's Alexander Valley and Russian River Valley, as well as North Coast appellations. J. Leland "Lee" Stewart founded the business in 1943 following the purchase of a winery and 30 acres (12 hectares) of vines on the slopes of Howell Mountain in the Napa Valley. He named the winery Chateau Souverain after the French for "sovereign" and the inaugural vintage is released the following year. In 1973, the estate's winemaking was moved to Alexander Valley and in 2006 Chateau Souverain relocated to the Asti winery, one of the oldest and largest wineries in Sonoma County. E. & J. Gallo Winery later purchased the Asti winery and Chateau Souverain brand in 2015. Chateau Souverain was one of the first to focus a wine portfolio on single-varietal esate wines. Today, it includes the likes of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay and Pinot Noir sourced from growers throughout Sonoma County and the North Coast. The portfolio is designed to be approachable and well-suited to a broad range of consumer palates.
