Distillery Information
Weingut Clemens Busch is a well regarded minimal-intervention wine producer based in the town of Pünderich, on the banks of the Mosel river, and best-known for its Riesling wines crafted from surrounding vineyards. The majority of the winery's vineyard holdings are found on the slopes of the Pündericher Marienburg – a south-facing slope on the opposite bank of the Mosel to Pünderich. This vineyard includes the Marienburg Großes Gewächs site. Other vineyard holdings are found in Rothenpfad, Fahrlay, Falkenlay and Felsterrasse (all Großes Gewächs sites). Production is predominantly geared to Riesling which ranges in styles from dry (trocken) to the sweeter Auslese, Beerenauslese and Trockenbeerenauslese (see German wine label information for more on these terms). A sparkling sekt (a Blanc de Noirs from Pinot Noir, or spätburgunder as it is known locally) is also produced Clemens Busch vineyards are run biodynamically and teas and preparations are used across the vineyards. Most wines are fermented in traditional, large-format, 1000-liter "fuder" oak barrels with indigenous yeasts. Wine movements are made according to the lunar phases and the wines are made without additives.
