Producer Information
Domaine Bosquet des Papes is an estate in the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation of the southern Rhône Valley. It is particularly known for its portfolio of red and white Châteauneuf-du-Pape wines, but also produces a small selection of Côtes du Rhône wines. The domaine was founded by Maurice and Josette Boiron in 1965 although the Boiron family has a history of winemaking that dates back to 1860. Under the management of husband-and-wife team, Nicolas and Jeanne-Claire Boiron (who took over in 2006) the estate has grown to encompass 32 hectares (79 acres) of vineyards. The majority of these vineyards are devoted to the cultivation of red grape varieties destined for the domaine's range of red Châteauneuf-du-Pape wines. It is Grenache that dominates here, closely followed by Syrah, Cinsaut and Mourvèdre. Bosquet des Papes also sets aside a small proportion of its Châteauneuf-du-Pape vineyards for the cultivation of Clairette, Grenache Blanc and Bourboulenc, destined for Châteauneuf-du-Pape blanc. The estate also makes wines under the Côtes du Rhône title, in particular a red – Bousquet des Boiron – and a Cinsaut-dominant rosé: Le Rosé de Zaza. The soils found in the Châteauneuf-du-Pape vineyards are characteristically pebbly and sandy, while the 4ha (10 acres) of vines that make the Côtes du Rhône wine are cultivated in more earthy soils. Grapes are picked by hand and either vinified in thermoregulated concrete vats, in the case of the red wines, or in stainless steel tanks for the white and rosé wines. Domaine Bosquet des Papes ages its red wines for 12-18 months in demi-muids and large oak barrels, while the white and rosé wines will spend approximately six months maturing in stainless steel tanks.
