Red Wine: 2020 | Monteverro | Toscana
Impenetrable ruby with a black core. Appealing nose, initially smells of mint, then juicy dark currant and blackberry, some cedar wood in the background. Very full on the palate, dark berry fruit paired with dark chocolate, grippy tannins, somewhat rough on the finish.

Distillery Information
Monteverro is a wine producer based in the southern Tuscan village of Capalbio, in Maremma. The estate is best known for its Super Tuscan wines, including its flagship wine, Monteverro, which is made from a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot. Founder Georg Weber established the estate's vineyards in 2004 and produced the inaugural vintage four years later in 2008. Today, the vineyards extend over an area of 35 hectares (86 acres), planted to Syrah, Grenache, Sangiovese, Chardonnay and Vermentino, as well as the Bordeaux red grape varieties. The vines occupy stony red clay soils that are rich in minerals and, when combined with the favorable coastal location, enjoy ideal growing conditions. Consulting oenologist Michel Rolland oversees the winemaking of the estate's six wines: Monteverro, Terra di Monteverro, Tinata and Verruzzo, as well as varietal Chardonnay and Vermentino wines. Both the Monteverro and the Terra di Monteverro (the second wine) are made from similar quantities of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot. The Verruzzo is a blend of Bordeaux red grapes with smaller quantities of Sangiovese, while Dyed is a blend of Syrah and Grenache. The two white wines are both aged on their lees with only light filtration.
