      Producer Information

Bodegas Campo Viejo is a major Spanish producer based in Rioja with a winery near the region's capital of Logrono. Its first vintage was 1959 and since then it has grown to be one of Rioja's largest wineries and most-represented Spanish wine brands with distribution to more than 70 countries. Campo Viejo sources fruit from all three sub-regions of Rioja: Rioja Alta, Rioja Oriental and Rioja Alavesa. The most important variety grown is Tempranillo, but the vineyards also include Garnacha, Graciano, Carignan and Maturana Tinta (Trousseau). Campo Viejo's selection of wines includes red crianza, reserva, and gran reserva wines, as well as two Macabeo-dominant white wines, one dry and one semi-sweet. A rosé, a couple of cavas, and a proprietary red blend complete the label. In 2009, the Rioja governing board allowed new acreage to be planted with white varieties uncommon to Rioja. These vineyards serve an experimental winery with the aim of increasing its white portfolio, the grapes being Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Verdejo, Torrontes, Maturana Blanc and Tempranillo Blanco. The project extends beyond Campo Viejo to other Rioja brands owned by Viejo's parent company, Domecq Bodegas, itself a subsidiary of Pernod Ricard.
