Producer Information
Château Closiot is a boutique estate located in Barsac, within the prestigious Sauternes region of Bordeaux, known for producing both exceptional sweet and dry white wines. The property spans about eight hectares on the prized Clos Bonneau terroir, characterized by red earth, limestone, and gravelly soils, and is surrounded by notable estates like Château Climens and Doisy-Védrines. Originally owned by Belgian wine writer Bernard Sirot, the estate was later acquired by Jean-Marie Guffens, a respected figure in Burgundy winemaking. Under his direction, Château Closiot has become known for meticulous viticulture and precise winemaking, with grapes—mostly Sémillon, along with some Sauvignon Blanc and Sauvignon Gris—harvested by hand, often affected by noble rot (botrytis cinerea), and aged in a mix of new and used oak barrels. Production remains intentionally limited, averaging around 7,000 bottles per year. The estate produces acclaimed Sauternes cuvées such as Château Closiot, Passion de Closiot, and Barsac Bonneau, alongside a standout dry white called "Le C de Sec," which has received critical praise for its balance, freshness, and mineral-driven profile. Wines from Château Closiot are known for their depth, elegance, and a style that bridges classic Bordeaux richness with Burgundian finesse.
