Reviews:
- Wine Spectator: Creamed orchard fruit and creamy mango notes are augmented with oak in this stylish, warm rosé, which is salty and round on the palate, with good length and structure. Offering nice texture and weight, this is for fans of a more structured, polished version. Grenache, Rolle and Syrah.
- James Suckling: Here is a well-composed, harmonious and flavorful rosé. The nose expresses notes of apricots, bergamot, fresh flowers and a touch of baking spices. It’s medium-bodied with bright acidity and an intense mid-palate. Focused and lively with tension and drive. It has a succulent center balancing the generous fruit and creamy finish.
Producer Information
Château d'Esclans is a wine producer in Provence, specializing in full-bodied, dry rosé wines primarily from the Grenache wine grape variety. The flagship wine is the top-of-the-range Garrus cuvée, which is one of the most important (and highly priced) rosé wines in Provence. It was first produced in 2006 and was met with high acclaim. Since, only tiny quantities of the toasty, full-bodied and highly sought after rosé is made each vintage. It is also reputable for its entry-level Whispering Angel Rosé, which is exported around the world to multiple countries. The château was built in the 12th Century and is located on an elevated site, between Saint-Tropez and Cannes. About 44 hectares (110 ac) here are under vine, with Grenache, Mourvèdre, Cinsaut, Rolle and Syrah all represented. Some of the Grenache vines at the highest elevations are up to 90 years old, making them some of the oldest in Provence. These low-yielding vines give the d'Esclans wines concentration and richness.
