Distillery Information
Weingut Gunderloch is a German wine estate located in the Rheinhessen in Nackenheim. The sixth-generation family estate was founded by Carl Gunderloch in 1890 and is known for its Riesling wines. The winery is perhaps best-known for its bottlings from the renowned Nackenheimer Rothenberg vineyard. The Rothenberg vineyard, one of the only Erste Lage vineyards in the Rheinhessen, is almost entirely owned by Weingut Gunderloch. The estate is made up of 24 hectares (59 acres) of vineyard land, 85 percent of which is planted to Riesling and 10 percent to Gewürztraminer, Silvaner and Pinot Noir. In addition, Gunderloch owns smaller plantings of Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. The vineyards are made up of ancient red slate soils, and are situated on steep slopes with up to an 80 percent gradient. Gunderloch's classified vineyard sites are positioned along the Rhine River between Nackenheim and Nierstein on the Roter Hang (Red Slope) and include Nierstein Hipping, Neirstein Pettenthal and Nackenheimer Rothenberg. The company is a founding member of the VDP and celebrates over 130 years of wine production.
