Producer Information
Villa Maria is one of New Zealand's most prominent wine producers, in terms of both quality and quantity. The company's key vineyards are located in Marlborough, Gisborne and Hawke's Bay, with the key winemaking facilities in Marlborough. However, the company got its start in south Auckland, where it still has vineyards and a winemaking facility. Villa Maria's first vintage was 1962, a year after founder Sir George Fistonich leased the land from his wine-growing father. The company grew considerably in the 1970s and 80s, when New Zealand wine began to find an international audience. Now Villa Maria wines are exported around the world, with the UK as the number one market and Australia also very important.
