Distillery Information

The story is that the sweet honey drink was used to lure bears, so it became known as bärenfang ("bear trap"). A popular homebrewed spirit in the 15th century, Tuecke & Koenig Bear Trap Company introduced the first commercially produced bärenfang, called Bärenjäger.
