Blackened Whiskey is a brand of whiskies produced in collaboration with the heavy metal band Metallica. It is named after the eponymous song by the band, released in 1988 and is bottled by the Sweet Amber Distillery Co. in Mineville New York. Each batch of whiskey is blasted with a curated playlist of Metallica songs throughout the aging process. The brand states that the low-frequency sound waves assists the aging spirit to penetrate deeper into the barrel and create a more nuanced final product. The brand's flagship Rye the Lightning Kentucky Straight is played a set list from the band's performance of the Ride the Lightning album at the 2012 Orion Music festival. Other whiskies are aged with certain albumns or curated playlists. Other notable whiskies include the Blackened X Willett Kentucky Straight Rye is porduced in collaboration with brewer Drew Kuslveen of Willett Distillery. It is reserve with an average age of six and a half years and is finished in Madeira casks for up to 14 weeks.
