Caol Ila Thompson Bros 15 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky | 700ML Tasting Notes
Nose: A rich mix of walnut whip, cream, vanilla, and cheap chocolate, with notes of charred orange, grape skins, toasted oak, and ginger biscuits. Dried cranberries and raspberry puree add sweetness, while powerful peat is perfectly balanced with fruit, oak, and spice.
Palate: Oak char, walnuts, pecans, and salted treacle sponge pudding, along with dried cranberry, orange peel, and cherry bitters. Intense, rich red fruits are well-balanced and never overwhelming.
Finish: A growing spice, deepening charred oak, and a lingering ginger pudding sweetness.
Distillery Information
(kowel-EEL-ah) In Gaelic Caol Ila means “Sound of Islay”. Hector Henderson founded the distillery in 1846 near Port Askaig in a remote cove on Islay. The water that the distillery uses is from Loch nam Ban (Torrabolls Loch). Caol Ila is the "workhorse of Islay". It is by far the largest distillery on the island and the vast majority of its output is used in blending, particularly in Johnnie Walker and Bell’s. However Diageo now promotes Caol Ila as a standalone single malt with Special Release bottlings (including unpeated versions). There is also a wide range of bottles available from independent bottlers.
