Distillery Information
Dewar's is a leading brand of blended Scotch whisky. It is one of the best-selling blended Scotch whiskies in the USA, and has won a number of awards for its flagship White Label blend. The John Dewar & Sons company was founded in 1846 by John Dewar Sr, and was greatly expanded by his sons, John Jr and Tommy. Dewar's reached notoriety in the USA when Scottish industrialist Andrew Carnegie sent it to President Benjamin Harrison as an inauguration gift. In 1896, the company had become so successful that it opened the Aberfeldy distillery in the Highlands. Today, this is still the company's base, and continues to provide the largest malt whisky component of the Dewar's blends. The principal White Label bottling was first created in 1899, and the blend, which combines more than 40 different single malt and single grain whiskies has not changed since. Dewar's is reputed to be a pioneer of the process of further maturing whisky in the cask after blending, to allow the blend to marry together and become more mellow and rounded.
