"Four Roses distillery's story starts with founder Paul Jones Jr.'s romance in the 1880s, naming his bourbon after the four red roses his beloved promised to wear to a ball if she accepted him. It thrived, became a top U.S. seller, survived Prohibition (as a medicinal whiskey), but was bought by Seagram in 1943, who then made it an export-only brand in the U.S. in 1958."
