Invergordon 27 Year Old 1997 Cask #300709 Dram Mor Single Grain Scotch Whisky | 700ML Tasting Notes
Nose: Delicate notes of cereal, oak, and vanilla, with a touch of citrus peel in tow.
Palate: Heaps of creamy vanilla, juicy barley and toasty grain, with poached pear and caramel sweetness.
Finish: Rich layers of oak char, flapjack, and a tickle of pepper.
Distillery Information
Located in the Highland town of Invergordon, established by Invergordon Distillers Ltd. and operating since 1961 is the Invergordon grain distillery. It is one of only six dedicated grain distilleries in Scotland, and is famous for their Coffey stills, from which they produce some of the finest grain whisky in the world. The Navy withdrew from the town in 1956, leaving a peak of unemployment after which Invergordon was ready to welcome some industrial infrastructure. Oddly, it is based in a region associated with malt distilling, though the combination of easily accessible cereal crops and its port set it as an ideal site for a grain distillery. After a series of owners, Invergordon was absorbed into Whyte & Mackay in 1993, and the majority of liquid distilled goes into Whyte & Mackay blends. Invergordon has an absolutely staggering production capacity of 40,000,000 liters per year, though the whisky firm announced plans in December 2016 to modernise the 1970s distillery.
