The Johnnie Walker story began with John Walker, a Scottish grocer who opened a shop in Kilmarnock in 1820 and started blending whiskies to ensure consistency. After his death in 1857, his son Alexander took over, expanding the business by creating the "Old Highland Whisky" and using square bottles with slanted labels for better transport and shelf visibility.
