This Millésime 2018 is a limited-edition release from the La Favorite distillery, drawn from carefully selected casks (“Sélection de Fûts”) and bottled at 46 % ABV. The result is a refined agricole rum with elegance and age-driven complexity, showcasing a balance of fruit, spice and wood. It aims to deliver the signature Martinique terroir, enhanced by maturation in French oak barrels and the island’s tropical ageing conditions.

La Favorite Millésime 2018 Selection De Futs Rum | 700ML Tasting Notes

Nose: Bright and lively, with initial citrus uplift (grapefruit, orange peel) alongside light empyreumatic notes (toasted wood, subtle smoke) and fresh tropical fruits.

Palate: Smooth and rounded entry, evolving into richer tones of ripe orchard fruit (pear, stone fruit), light vanilla and honeyed oak, with a gentle spice presence (cinnamon, light clove). The agricole sugar-cane character remains present, grounded by the barrel influence.

Finish: Medium to long. The wood tannins and spice linger, accompanied by a faint roasted almond or hazelnut undertone, a last echo of cane-juice freshness, and a clean, slightly drying tail that keeps the rum engaging to the end.

Distillery Information

La Favorite is a historic, family-run distillery in Martinique, founded in the 19th century and one of the few remaining to still employ a steam-powered operation and traditional methods of agricole rum production. Its process begins with freshly-pressed sugar-cane juice (rather than molasses), which is fermented and distilled through a Creole column still on site. The spirits are matured in the island’s tropical climate, which accelerates interaction with the barrels and yields a strong, expressive profile even at moderate age. For this Millésime 2018 Sélection de Fûts, the barrel selection was key: only specific casks were chosen to highlight the distillery’s house style with enhanced depth, while bottling at 46 % ABV ensures accessibility without sacrificing character. Over the years, La Favorite has built a reputation among rum enthusiasts for quality and authenticity, with each numbered limited edition reflecting their ongoing commitment to craft.
