Maker's Mark Founder's Series Rob Samuels Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey | 1L Tasting Notes

Nose: Sweet wheat, vanilla bean, soft oak, and light caramel.

Palate: Creamy vanilla, honeyed corn, gentle spice, and mellow wheat softness.

Finish: Smooth and balanced, with lingering oak, vanilla, and a hint of char.

Distillery Information

Maker’s Mark was founded in 1953 by Bill Samuels Sr., with production beginning shortly after; its first release was in 1958. It is famous for using red winter wheat instead of rye in its mash bill, giving its bourbon a softer, sweeter profile. The distillery is located in Loretto, Kentucky, on Star Hill Farm, which includes its own water source and has been run by the Samuels family for generations. Rob Samuels, the namesake of this Founder's Series, took over leadership in 2011, continuing the family legacy while also pushing for sustainability and innovation. Their process includes rotating barrels by hand in warehouses and using the same signature red wax seal—small touches that underline the family-centric craftsmanship.
