Distillery: Micil

Micil Long Walk is a blended Irish whiskey combining a selection of five premium malts and grains, matured in Port, bourbon, and fresh oak casks, and with a signature hint of soft peat smoke! The folks at Micil have shared the breakdown of the blend – it's built around a core of 60% bourbon cask matured grain alongside 20% virgin oak matured grain, 10% Port cask matured grain, 8% Port cask matured double distilled malt, and 2% peated malt. With balanced layers of vanilla, toffee, nutty malt, and soft spice, bolstered by a delicate whisper of peat, it'll shine sipped neat or mixed in cocktails.

Micil Long Walk Irish Whiskey | 700ML Tasting Notes

Nose: Delicate notes of dried orange, sawdust, and toasted oak.

Palate: Creamy vanilla balances peppery warmth, with runny caramel and hints of honeyed, smoked almonds.

Finish: Drying notes of vinous oak sneak through, with woody spices, roasted nuts, and soft peat smoke.

Distillery Information

In the back of Olso Bar In Salthill, Galway you’ll find Micil Distillery, founded by former schoolteacher Pádraic Ó Griallais. Ó Griallais gave up teaching in 2015 to bring legal distillation back to Galway after a century, but his family have been distilling in nearby Connemara (not to be confused with the peated whiskey made at Cooley Distillery in Dublin), for the last 170 years. It began with Micil Mac Chearra, who the distillery is named after, back in 1848 and over six generations of his family have continued to make poitín. Ó Griallais is the first to do so legally, however. You can hear all about his journey to create Micil Distillery here.
