Distillery Information
Negro Mate is an artisanal mezcal brand grounded in Oaxacan tradition. The production begins with mature agave harvested from mountainous terrain, which is slow-roasted in earthen pit ovens over wood fire to develop deep flavour and smoke. After roasting, the piñas are milled (often by tahona stone), fermented naturally in open vats and distilled—typically using copper stills—to preserve character and complexity. The Joven expression is bottled without barrel aging so it retains the raw essence of roasted agave and terroir. The brand emphasises authenticity, quality and respect for ancestral methods while producing spirits accessible to both enthusiasts and newcomers.
