Distillery Information
One of Sam Brannan's more successful ventures in the mid 1860s, the Calistoga Distillery produced over 90,000 gallons of brandy each year. Paying homage to Sam's legacy and one of the first distilleries in California, we present six different lines of spirits that are available for sale online and at participating retailers starting January 2024, and available for tasting at the Calistoga Depot Distillery this Spring. Sam landed in San Francisco with a printing press in tow and started the town's first newspaper, The California Star, which would later herald the news of the Gold Rush and bring Sam his fortune. With his earnings, he purchased 20,000 grapevine cuttings on a trip to Europe with the intention of producing brandy "equal to the finest brandies in France" at his distillery in Calistoga.
