Distillery Information

The Macallan distillery was founded by Alexander Reid in 1824 after he obtained one of the first legal distilling licenses in Scotland, establishing it on the Easter Elchies estate along the River Spey. From its start as a modest farm distillery, Macallan grew into a world-renowned single malt, building a reputation for quality, particularly for its use of sherry-seasoned oak casks, and for maintaining its commitment to craftsmanship over decades, even after changing hands.
