"The Macallan's story begins in 1824 in Speyside, Scotland, when farmer Alexander Reid secured one of Scotland's first legal distillery licenses at the Easter Elchies estate, using local barley and River Spey water to build a reputation for quality, distinguishing itself early with sherry-seasoned oak casks and small stills, evolving from a humble farm distillery to a globally recognized luxury single malt under various owners, notably the Edrington Group since 1999, famous for its rich, woody whiskies and record-breaking auction sales."
