Nine Leaves was a small, artisanal rum distillery founded in Otsu, Shiga Prefecture, Japan by Yoshiharu Takeuchi. Specializing in kokuto (black sugar) rums distilled in copper pot stills, the distillery combined meticulous fermentation and distillation driven by a passion for fine spirits. After closing in 2023, the remaining aged stocks were acquired by Velier, who has continued to release these treasured expressions, preserving the legacy of one of Japan’s most distinctive rum producers.
