Producer Information
Mas Martinet is a Spanish winery linked to the small group of winemakers attributed with reinvigorating Priorat as one of the country's finest wine-producing regions. Garnacha is the most important grape in the vineyards and in the wines, making up the majority of many of Martinet's blends. The winery dates back to 1989 when José Luis Pérez and the likes of René Barbier, Alvaro Palacios, Carles Pastrana and Dafne Glorian began reviving vineyards in Priorat. They produced their first wines together in the Clos Mogador winery before separating in the early 1990s to each found their own estates. Pérez founded Mas Martinet. The Clos Martinet is the flagship wine of the portfolio, a Garnacha-based red blend sourced from multiple vineyards within the company's holdings. It is aged in both French oak barrels and clay amphora to create complexity. Other wines in the collection include the Pesseroles Brisat. It is traditional orange wine, produced from a range of white grape varieties and macerated on skins for up to three months. Prior to bottling is is aged for an extended period in glazed ceramic large jars and demijohns. Mas Martinet farms 10 hectares (25 acres) of vineyards, all of which remain family-owned. Garnacha is planted by Cariñena and Syrah along with smaller amounts of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. There are multiple other vineyards within the company's holdings, all within Priorat.
