Producer Information
Domaine Bertheau is a Burgundy wine producer based in the Côte de Nuits village (and appellation) of Chambolle-Musigny. The domaine is best known for its impressive vineyard holdings, including plots in the Bonnes Mares Grand Cru vineyard and in some of the area's more prominent premier cru vineyards, including Les Amoureuses and Les Charmes. Altogether, Bertheau produces around 1250 cases annually from these holdings, under the grand cru, premier cru and village appellations. The vines in the top vineyards are on average 45 years old and are planted mainly on classic, clay-limestone soils. Owner and winemaker François Bertheau (the domaine is sometimes referred to as Domaine François Bertheau) takes a hands-off approach to winemaking. He uses very little new wood, racks only when necessary, and leaves his wines in barrel to develop slowly over 18 months.
