Producer Information
San Filippo is an Italian wine estate located in Montalcino, in Tuscany. It produces Brunello di Montalcino DOCG, Rosso di Montalcino DOC, and Sant'Antimo Rosso DOC wines sourced entirely from four estate vineyards. The 22 hectare (54 acre) estate is planted to 11ha (27 acres) of vines, primarily Sangiovese with some Merlot and Syrah. San Filippo's four vineyards include the northeast-facing sites Le Lucére and La Storta, the north-facing La Raffiche vineyard, and the southwest-exposed La Smarrita vineyard. Soils are composed of clay intermingled with marl and limestone. San Filippo produces three Brunello di Montalcino wines from Sangiovese. The estate's top Brunello, a Riserva from the Le Lucére vineyard, is produced from a selection of the best grapes within the estate. It is barrel-aged for two years, prior to another eight months in bottle before release. The estate was founded in 1972, and had its first vintage in 1977. It is owned by Roberto Ginnelli.
