The winery's history begins with its founding by the Italian Marchese Lodovico Antinori. He began construction of the house in 1981 in Castagneto Carducci, Tuscany, in the province of Livorno. Four years later, in 1985, the first wine, Ornellaia, laid the foundation for a successful, long-standing tradition of fine winemaking. After a change of ownership from Lodovico Antinori to Robert Mondavi, the estate is now owned by the Frescobaldi family, who continue its success story with utmost care.
