Distillery Information
Domaine Saint Préfert is a wine estate based in the well-known Châteauneuf-du-Pape region of the southern Rhône Valley. The estate was founded by Fernand Serre around a century ago and was one of the first domaines in Châteauneuf-du-Pape to sell its wine in bottles in the 1930s. Saint Préfert has been owned since 2003 by Isabel Ferrando and is best known for its quality production of traditional Châteauneuf red and white blends. The estate is located on an 80-hectare (198-acre) plot of land in the southwestern sector of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. The vineyard is planted to some 13 hectares (32 acres) of vines that are around 60+ years old, producing low, concentrated yields. Some of the oldest vines on the estate are Mourvèdre, planted as far back as 1920, although there are also plantings of Grenache, Syrah and Cinsaut. Soils are composed of gravel, rock, stones, and large pebbles known as galets. Saint Préfert practices selection massale whereby vines are replanted with cuttings from the vineyard's exceptionally old vines.
