Big Peat Bordeaux Edition Blended Scotch Whisky | 700ML Tasting Notes

Nose: Lively, distinctive. Empyreumatic (ashes, sleet), the first nose is influenced by aging in Bordeaux barrels (black grapes). Allowed to breathe, the aromatic palette takes on orange (apricot, mandarin) and spicy (clove, black pepper) tones. Then the peat becomes oilier and more saline.

Palate: Lively, distinguished. Herbaceous, the attack on the palate is also honeyed (acacia), gourmand (frangipane) and slightly aniseed. In the mid-palate, flavors of Aix calisson and zucchini flower fritters compete in intensity. The finish is vanilla and meringue.

Finish: Long. At the start of the finish, germinating barley grains roll onto the palate. The aftertaste is softened by notes of toffee. Finally, the plumes of smoke from a burning Havana permeate the atmosphere.

Distillery Information

Big Peat was the first whisky in Douglas Laing's Remarkable Regional Malts series, which launched in 2009. The idea behind the brand was to offer whisky drinkers the 'ultimate distillation of Islay'.
