The recipe for Birch Rum was originally found in the Finnish book, Kansan keittokirja, and was first made by Finnish immigrants in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The drink was then marketed as a medicinal tonic, and became an integral part of Finnish-American culture. Birch Rum is a distilled beverage made from fermented birch sap and water.
