Nose: Wonderfully complex, intensifying smoke character and luscious berry notes. A wisp of wood smoke laces through fading embers and aromatic medicinal smoke atoms. Emerging confectionary fruits tantalize the senses with notes of crisp, juicy cranberries and red currants, sprinkled with sugar. Hints of dark brown sugars, soft spices, raisins and sweet plum arise from swirling smoke aromas creating depth of flavour and harmony.
Palate: Fragrant wood smoke with spice. A touch of caramelising brown sugars balanced with red berries and peeled red apple skin. Wood polish, glowing embers and stewed plum surface and linger on.
Finish: Smoke which climbs into the distance; leaving behind a trace of black peppercorn and a hint of baking brambles.

The Port Ellen distillery is located in Port Ellen on the isle of Islay, Scotland. Port Ellen was established as a malt mill in 1825, and then developed as a distillery under John Ramsay from 1833 to 1892. The warehouses he built still exist and are listed buildings.
