"The Uncle Nearest distillery story celebrates Nathan "Nearest" Green, an enslaved man in Tennessee who became the first known African-American master distiller, teaching his craft to a young Jack Daniel, and whose legacy was rediscovered by Fawn Weaver, leading to the creation of the acclaimed Uncle Nearest Premium Whiskey brand to honor him. Weaver's research, sparked by an old photo, revealed Green's crucial role in developing the smooth Tennessee whiskey process, and the brand now aims to correct the historical record, support Green's descendants, and promote diversity in spirits."
